The town of Kavala

In the past, writers and travelers have called Kavala “the small Monte Carlo” and they were right.
Kavala, a modern but quiet city of Northern Greece, with its amphitheatrical setting around the port, looks out onto the sea. In the old city, the remaining neo-classical buildings and the Byzantine Castle compose a magical colourful image and make the city a unique destination.
The natural beauty of the area is another element of its charming aspect. The coast has wonderful beaches, crystal blue seas with tiny rocky islands, but in the greater region of Kavala we can also find green forests and wonderful mountain scenery that will attract nature lovers.
Tourist destinations in the region, like the nearby island of Thassos, with its forests and its crystal clear waters, the Archaeological Site of Philippi, with its historical monuments and Mount Paggaio, with its numerous monasteries, are exceptionally interesting for the visitor to Kavala.

Getting There

Kavala is connected by all the main routes of Greece and the Balkans, allowing for easy access. The Egnatia Highway which crosses northern Greece will allow you to reach Kavala fast whereas, for the more romantic traveler, we propose the old National Road, with its beautiful vistas and villages.

“ Megas Alexandros ” International Airport of Kavala provides flights to and from a large number of destinations. It is only 30 minutes by taxi from the hotel. Alternatively, the “Makedonia” International Airport of Thessaloniki is at a distance of 174 km. the transfer takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Kavala’s main port, which has played an essential role in the history of the city since ancient times, is only 400m. It provides a ferry link with the islands of Thassos, Lemnos, Lesvos and Samothraki. The frequent departures permit day trips to Thassos. The sea trip to the island lasts about one hour.

Batis Multiplex

Organized beach in a beautiful picturesque bay just 4 km from Kavala, awarded with the Blue Flag for the clear waters and well organized area. Guests will find water games, pools, a pool bar, a beach bar, a restaurant and a playground in Batis, while a 100-site campsite is also on site. Access is by bus (line 8) during the summer months and by intercity bus to New Peramos for the rest of the months. It has free parking.

Kalamitsa

The organized beach of the Municipality of Kavala at the west entrance of the city is among the first preferences of the bathers in general and the youth of the city in particular. Easy access by public transport (lanes 8 and 4), free entrance, and free parking for those wishing to travel by car. There are changing rooms, showers and sports areas and there are taverns, refreshments and bars for cool breaks.

Ammoglossa

The sea and the pine forest of Keramoti coast make up a typical Greek image. It is a strip of land that penetrates the sea and extends into the Aegean blue. The sandy beach attracts many visitors in the summer thanks to its relatively shallow and calm waters, making it ideal for families. Organized beach bars, cafes and taverns, mainly seafood, make the area an ideal summer destination! Someone can go to Keramoti by the intercity bus to Xanthi and then continue on foot or taxi to the beach.

For those who do not want to leave the city, Rapsani is the ideal choice for a dip, as it is centrally located right next to the Faliro Municipal Park. Sand, shallow water, showers and changing rooms - and a tavern in two steps, if you want to pinch something without moving at all!

Kapnergatis Square

Kapnergatis Square, on Kassandrou and Averof streets, is the second most important and central square of the city, after Freedom Square. On the Kapnergatis square is the large building of the Municipal Tobacco Storehouse, which regularly hosts exhibitions and events, as well as the Kapnergati Monument, to which the square owes its name.

Fortress

At the top of the Panagia Peninsula is the Acropolis of Kavala, which was built for the most part in the first quarter of the 15th century AD. He succeeded the Byzantine Acropolis of Christoupolis (the oldest name of Kavala), which had been destroyed in 1391, incorporating its ruins in the construction. The purpose of the fort was to control and protect the Egnatia Ancient Road crossing.
